Our founder, Ozan Bilgen, a Silicon Valley engineering leader with experience at Microsoft, Netflix, PayPal, Uber, and Palantir, saw a massive inefficiency: even top tech companies relied on huge teams for document processing. Existing solutions used fragile zone-based OCR that failed on rotated documents and required companies to hire consultants to build and maintain their own models—even for basic documents like driver’s licenses and invoices. Most models quickly became outdated, and machine learning remained a black box for most engineers and business teams. In 2020, Ozan founded Base64 to change that. Today, Base64 delivers AI-powered document processing through a simple API and over 400 no-code connectors—no ML expertise required—with 2,800+ prebuilt models and advanced features including signature verification, PII redaction, and custom model builder options, making it the leading Document AI platform for speed, accuracy, and ease of use.
